Celebrating the Tommyknocker Holidays in Central City

They’re not elves … they’re tommyknockers! With Central City’s gold mining origins, it’s only fitting that we’ve named our holiday festival after these mythical little creatures that are said to live underground in mines. And just like the tommyknockers, our holiday festival will be fun and maybe a little mischievous!

The 25th Annual Tommyknocker Holidays are from November 30 to December 3, 2023. Festivities are held in and around the famous Teller House (120 Eureka Street). Read on for fun activities to do with your family, friends, and neighbors this year. All are invited and welcome!

Thursday, November 30 – Kid’s Events

This day is all about the kids! The Children’s Parade starts at 1:30, lead by Father Christmas and heads down Main Street toward the City Tree, where kids can decorate it with handmade ornaments. Afterward, kids (and their parents) can enjoy a party just for them at the Teller House (1:30-3:30 p.m.). They’ll be greeted by Mrs. Claus and the Central City Lady Elk’s Auxiliary. The children will receive goodie bags filled with cookies, small toys, fruit, and other things. A professional storyteller and Father Christmas will also be at the party for entertainment.

Friday, December 1 – Tree Lighting & Potluck

The official tree lighting is held at 6:30 p.m. When the whole street lights up, crowds cheer, and you can feel the festive spirit in the air! We love to keep the holiday cheer flowing with a candlelight walk and Christmas caroling. All are welcome to join in as we make our way to the Teller House, where a potluck dinner begins at 7 p.m. Make sure to dress in your best ugly sweater because there will be prizes for the best one!

Saturday and Sunday, December 2-3 – Holiday Gift Bazaar

The weekend is for our Gift Bazaar! Shop artisan vendors for all of your holiday gifts. Local favorite vendors will be there with jewelry, art, holiday wreaths, holiday goodies, and more! This marketplace in the Teller House has everything you need to find the perfect presents for friends and family.

It wouldn’t be a Central City event without costumes … this is the time to bust out your Victorian clothing for another costume contest! A photo will be taken for the Main Street board to judge on Sunday afternoon.

Attendees can also partake in cookie decorating, gingerbread house, and children’s coloring contests. Father Christmas is also scheduled to make an appearance both days! The Bazaar is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday.
