Escape to Central City for Unique Summer Events in 2023

Who’s ready for some summer fun? Summer in the city can get hot, crowded, and old pretty quickly, so why not escape to the scenic mountains of Colorado?

Tucked away just 35 miles west of Denver is the hidden gem of Central City. This historic mining area is full of scenic fun for the entire family.

With six casinos running 24/7, and a thriving arts and shopping scene, you're sure to find something that piques your interest here.

Summer family events like nowhere else

Madam Lou Bunch Day performers gather on Main Street

Popcorn enthusiasts, families with kids, and anyone else who can’t get enough of this tasty snack – rejoice! Last summer, a new local shop, Eureka Street Popcorn, brought delicious treats to town. It is the perfect way to revive a historic building and provide handcrafted popcorn snacks for operagoers and tourists alike.

Located in the historic Teller Law Office, this handcrafted popcorn operation is ready to make your snacking dreams come true.

Another can’t-miss event this summer has to be Madam Lou Bunch Day on June 17, 2023. Madam Lou Bunch owned the most successful brothel, or “sporting house,” in Central City back in the old mining days. Today, locals honor her memory by dressing up in Victorian garb and racing brass beds on wheels down Main Street. We promise you, there’s not another event like it! So mark your calendars and join us for this hilarious and exciting tradition.

The curtain rises on these shows in July at one of Colorado’s most historic opera houses. Founded in 1932, the Central City Opera is the fifth oldest professional opera company in the nation!
